Rational people don't always go the way of reason. So many factors play into if someone is actually going to be rational. And I think most of us do not realize the degree to which we are irrational on a daily basis..
You almost have to take people's rationality on an individual by individual basis. Just because someone, for example, is in the category of an Atheist and that of a Secular Humanist, who reads popularized science books, and who is also into philosophy, doesn't mean they will be significantly more rational than most people who aren't Atheist, etc. etc.
So let's dissect the situation to see how complicated it is to determine to what degree someone is rational...
